Bagh Bakri (Android)

Wagh Bakri is our childhood game.

Traditional Indian games focused on a great combination of a lot of things together. Like, there’s life lessons involved in Snakes & ladders, mythology involved in Shatranj, concentration and hand-eye coordination involved in Lagori. Just the same way, another traditional Indian board game involves animals in it and the struggles of farmers / jungle dwellers in the earlier ages. It is called Bagh Bakri. I.e. Tiger and Goat.

Bagh Bakri

This is an ancient board game that involves pieces categorised as Bagh (Tiger) and Bakri (Goat). This game involves strategy in which the tigers and goats try to outsmart each other. It’s a game that can be enjoyed by any age group. It has 20 goats and 2 tigers. So it is kind of asymmetrical game. It is basically a hunting game played on a board where Baghs try to hunt as many Bakris as possible whereas Bakris try to trap all the tigers.

This game ends only when the tigers have captured all the goats or if the goats are successful in trapping all the tigers and hence, they are unable to move.

History

Bagh bakri is supposed to be originated from a rural Nepalese game – Bagh Chal. This game is played in some other parts of the world too, however, as a variant and with different names. For example, the American version is ‘Fox & geese’, while Venezuelan version of this game is called ‘Foxes & Hens’.

Bagh Bakri is a game that teaches the importance of unity.
